Our Story
It Begins with a Seed
Every V V Worthy piece starts life as a tagua nut—the seed of a palm that grows wild across the rainforests of South America. Once the fruit ripens and falls, the seeds are gathered by hand and left to dry, hardening over months into a material with the warmth, weight, and creamy tone of ivory. It has earned the name vegetable ivory: a beautiful, plant-based alternative that asks nothing of any animal.
Our business journey followed a very similar path. It started as a tiny seed of an idea back in 2021, after COVID which was planted alongside my wonderful mum. Mum, made me fall in love with the beauty and sustainability of tagua, launching our Gift shop in Tenterden, Kent.
Roots in Ecuador: Our Artisan Partnership
This business is deeply personal to us because Ecuador is our home country. Being from Ecuador, we wanted to ensure our business directly supports the communities and the beautiful land we come from.
To bring these pieces to life, we partner closely with a talented artisan couple back in Ecuador. They live where the tagua grows wild and carefully handle the crucial early stages of production. From sustainably picking the fallen nuts to slicing, treating, and masterfully dying them using vibrant, natural dyes, their incredible skill and heritage are woven into the very fabric of V V Worthy.
Evolving, Growing, and a New Chapter
As time went on, our paths beautifully evolved. My mum shifted her creative focus to run Ceci’s Corner, a lovely local coffee and gift shop in Tenterden, while I focused on the markets across Kent, Essex and London with my amazing husband. We loved chatting with you in person and sharing the beauty of vegetable ivory face-to-face.
Then came our biggest, most beautiful chapter yet: I fell pregnant.
To soak up the precious, chaotic early days of motherhood, we stepped away from the market stalls and put the business on a temporary pause. Adjusting to life with a newborn meant things moved in slow motion for a while, but as my little girl has grown into a busy 9-month-old, my creative spark has officially returned. Now, I am back—and I am so excited to finally bring V V Worthy fully online, just in time for the Christmas season!
Carved by Hand
Each bracelet, necklace, button, and carved figurine is shaped, sanded, and polished by hand and finished with natural dyes to give you those vibrant bright colours. Because every seed is unique, no two pieces are ever exactly alike—your piece is genuinely one of a kind. While I handle the website and shipping from my home while the baby naps, the unique character of each item remains at the heart of what we do.
Kind by Nature
Tagua is sustainable at every step. Harvesting fallen seeds fells no trees, and a single palm can keep producing for decades. Choosing tagua means a keepsake that is lightweight, durable, vegan, and gentle on the planet—and on its wildlife.
Thank you for being part of our story, for supporting a mother-run business, and for choosing a gift that is truly kind by nature.
